March 10, 2021: – The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) in collaboration with
International Finance Corporation (IFC), today, joined stock exchanges around the world to “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality,” an event set aside by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) and to promote women empowerment. The theme for this year’s IWD is, “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world,” with a pledge to “ChooseToChallenge”.
This year, over 100 exchanges participated in the event with the aim of drawing attention to the role the private sector, corporate bodies and governments can play in advancing gender equality to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and raise awareness about the Women Empowerment Principles.
The GSE marked the event with a panel discussion featuring Ms. Marcia Ashong, CEO, The Boardroom Africa; Ms. Angela Kyerematen-Jimoh, IBM Regional Head, North, East & West Africa; and Ms. Abena Amoah, Deputy Managing Director, Ghana Stock Exchange. Dr. Bettina Boekle, Senior Gender Consultant of the IFC set the conversation in motion with brief remarks on research data on gender issues during the pandemic. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Anita Erskine, a seasoned Broadcaster and gender activist.
